Can you guess what this is?  Or even where it can be found in a house?  I had the Leica set on macro mode allowing me to get in nice and close and get a nice gradual out of focus effect as your eyes move from the bottom to the top of the photograph.

I was ready to pass out myself when I was taking this shot of our girls sleeping on the bed.  The only camera I had available at the time without running all the way downstairs was my iPhone 3G.  As some photographers say, the best camera is the one you have with you!

I Shouldn’t, But I Will

I snapped this picture tonight using my iPhone in a very dimly lit Italian restaurant.  After indulging in some appetizers, a great main dish of white fish, and two bottles of wine (shared with my fiancee and two friends, of course), I topped the meal off with a scotch and a few bites of my fiancee’s dessert captured here.  Maybe I should think about hitting the gym tomorrow to work some of it off!

Her Better Side

The details surrounding this photography of Leila, our one year old yorkiepin, have escaped me.  By looking at the metadata, I see that I used flash coupled with a shallow depth of field and my 50mm lens.  The background has been blurred so beautifully by the 50mm, its tough for me to even figure out where I took this photograph inside our house!  If I had to venture a guess though, it was taken in the basement/home theater.  How I managed to light Leila with a flash and still shoot at 1/13 of a second with such a sharp result is beyond me.  I like when I surprise myself like this!

High ISO Disappointment

I am still WAY behind on getting my project photographs processed and uploaded to both Flickr and this site.  I am going to push hard over the next week to see how much progress I can make.  This probably means much shorter write ups, but I do not think many people actually make the trip over to the blog from Twitter, Facebook, or Flickr.

This is another picture that leaves me disappointed with the low light performance of the Canon 7D.  From what I have heard, some of the Nikon DSLR bodies can practically take pictures in the dark with less noise than the Canon 7D put into this frame!

Tonight I went on a photowalk around the Marriott in search of a subject for the project.  I was feeling a bit defeated before I reached the ground floor and observed this scene.  The soda vending machine situated next to the outside door was being reflected very clearly on the glass door from my vantage point.  As I was shooting the pictures, the night maintenance man got off the elevator and inquired as to what I was doing.  I explained my photography project to him and showed him the kind of pictures I was getting of the reflection.  He pretended to be interested for a few moments, wished me good luck, then went on his way.  Oh well; as they say, you cannot please everyone!

“Mom is Best”

This was the view out of my hotel room window tonight.  Some kids staying in the hotel, and probably their dad, stomped out this message to their mother.  The widest lens I currently have in my camer bag is the 50mm.  I hope to change that real soon, however, for now I make due.  With a wider lens, I would have liked to capture more of the surrounding area, but the 50mm lens only gave me this field of view.  To add a little pop to the photograph, I used a preset to introduce a bit of a sepia effect and then pushed up the vignette a bit more.

I was in a rush tonight to get over to my friend’s house to watch the UFC fight from Saturday night on his DVR.  I made some onion dip to bring over to the small gathering of guys.  I have yet to find an onion dip which tastes better than plain old Campbell’s onion soup mix combined with sour cream.

The Marriott in Mount Laurel, New Jersey added on the Coco Key Water Resort at some point over the past couple of years.  Surprisingly, at least to me, it is open year round.  I really hope the water is heated in those slides.  Otherwise, I am certain the water is a few degrees colder after it flowes through this cold winter air.
