Tonight I continued to play around and get to know my 100mm f/2.8L macro lens some more. The subject getting the close up treatment tonight was my Microsoft Arc mouse. Because the color image was lacking interesting colors, I decided to process this photograph as a black and white. I used a preset called Matt’s Sin City: Dark Red by Matt Kloskowski.

This is a typical snack for me at night while I am away from home and staying in a hotel. These vegetable gyoza are relatively healthy and low in calories. They are also quite colorful. I decided to try and capture them in a photograph tonight. I used a single, remotely triggered, flash bouncing into two of the white pillows from the bed to light the scene.

It was time to hit the tables tonight at the Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This was the scene of the heavy Jersey Shore fog invading the resort and casino sign. I snapped a few pictures before heading in to try my luck at some blackjack and craps. This one is my favorite of the short series that I captured.

Yup, more macro action this evening. I like to take my new lenses out for extended test drives over the first couple of weeks to make sure I begin to learn exactly what they can and cannot do for me. This photograph demonstrates the thin depth of field a macro lens gives you when you are in close to the subject. The hairs on Mela’s snout are in focus near her skin, but as you follow them out, they go out of focus.

This is what happens when I realize late that I have not yet taken a photo365 picture for the day and I am forty five minutes away from one of my DSLR’s watching UFC and drinking beers. I guess it could be a lot worse!

Peace is back! But this time, she’s in macro.

I guess you can tell what was laying around the hotel room tonight?!

I took another photowalk around the lobby of the Mount Laurel Marriott tonight hoping to stumble upon something to shoot for today’s picture. When I reached the side entrance, I spotted a couple of men smoking cigars outside. The smoke was drifting back towards the building and under the awning where the high hat lights would shine through it. This event made for some spectacular looking smoke swirls dancing in the beams of light. I tried my best to capture the moment in still form.

A few coworkers and I took an after hours trip down to Atlantic City tonight. I was lucky enough to ride shotgun on the way down there. I made sure to have my camera bag up front with me to attempt to take my picture for today before getting to the casinos. You never know when you will walk back out of those places once you go in.
Today’s picture is of the cruise control settings on the steering wheel of my coworker’s rental car. I love how the 100mm f/2.8L Macro can make even the most every day objects just a bit more interesting.

I wanted to play around with the new 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens a bit more tonight. I always thought that having a macro lens would open up endless possibilities of subjects to shoot in every room. Unfortunately, it has not been so easy since I got my first macro lens. I was lucky enough to capture this shot of the breakfast menu in my hotel room tonight though. I really like how the composition came out and the detail visible in the counter top.
