Inspiration hit me tonight while on another photowalk outside the hotel. The night sky was crystal clear and the moon was shining bright. While I was underneath a tree in the parking lot I looked up and saw interesting light patterns being created by the moon and the leafs. I played around for a little bit with just taking steady shots up through the tree, but it was not until I tried dragging the shutter that I started to get something that I really like. Today’s photograph was created by rotating the camera in my hand slowly during the one second exposure up through the tree into the night sky.

What do I take a picture of when it is late at night, I am exhausted and stuck in a hotel room decorated, what feels like, ten years ago? The hotel room desk chair fabric, of course!

Our home town had a flower and garden show on the main streets of the town center today. I brought the DSLR with the macro lens attached in hopes of getting some great closeup flower shots. This photograph is from the booth of one of the few orchid dealers’ exhibiting at the show.

MUST….KEEP….POSTING…..
While “throwing” my clubs into my car’s trunk after a round of golf this morning, I spotted this scene at the far end of the long parking lot. I took a walk to cure my curiosity and snapped a few photographs with my iPhone while I was over there.

Today I learned the importance of using a tripod for macro photography. The depth of field is so narrow, it is near impossible to keep your focal point exact while hand holding. I do love the way the colors came out in today’s photograph though.

I was walking on the streets of Center City Philadelphia this evening on my way to meet up with a few coworkers. At one of the intersections that I needed to cross I stumbled upon this, what appears to be a movie set. I stood around for a couple of minutes trying to hear if anyone was talking about what movie was being filmed. Unfortunately, I never did find out and had to continue on my way.

I took a photowalk around the outside of the Marriott tonight with the intent to only use the 100mm f/2.8L macro lens for today’s photograph. I stumbled upon the small Koi pond in the front of the building. I thought that the low sun in the sky was creating some intriguing lighting on the pond’s surface. I squatted down to get as even with the water’s surface as possible while keeping the lilly in frame. In post, I converted the image to a black and white rendition.

The coffee was brewing this morning and it smelt so good that I had to take a picture of it. I left the 100mm f/2.8L macro lens on the body and snapped the shot more from a portrait distance than a close up distance. The 100mm f/2.8L macro lens is great not only as a macro but also as a normal lens, especially for portraiture. Just because the lens says macro does not mean that is all it is good for.

A few months back I was on a kick using Lego figurines for the Photo365 project. My fiancee was nice enough to swing by the Lego store in Tyson’s Corner, VA to pick me up some more pieces. The box she wound up getting is full of random heads, torsos, legs and accessories. Tonight I planned on using at least one new Lego-man, but when I opened the box and saw the hundreds of tiny pieces with very little sorting rhyme or reason, I promptly changed my mind.

I was out playing golf this morning when I crossed paths with these deer. I knew that shooting into the low sun would cause lens flare and decided that I would use the flare as an element in the photograph. Although the flare wound up dominating the frame, I am still satisfied with the shot taken by my iPhone 3G.
