I loved how these flowers looked sitting in their vase by our front door. I decided to set up my trusty flower photo station in the kitchen and use the macro lens to try to capture their brilliant colors. I did not notice this grouping of three pink flowers while shooting the frame. However, when I was post processing the picture, I opted for a tight crop on the grouping once I noticed it.

Our home town had a flower and garden show on the main streets of the town center today. I brought the DSLR with the macro lens attached in hopes of getting some great closeup flower shots. This photograph is from the booth of one of the few orchid dealers’ exhibiting at the show.

Today I learned the importance of using a tripod for macro photography. The depth of field is so narrow, it is near impossible to keep your focal point exact while hand holding. I do love the way the colors came out in today’s photograph though.

My fiancee was given some flowers on her last day of work by one of her coworkers. I decided to put the flowers in front of the portrait backdrop and snap some shots with the softbox and reflector. I am really impressed with how the shots came out. This photograph, in particular, has some great tones and sharp details. The purple flowers and the yellow rose are my favorite parts of the photograph. The gray background does appear in frame as it was off to camera right at this angle.

This weekend we are at my mom’s house in Hillsborough, New Jersey to celebrate a late Christmas with my side of the family. This is a view from my mom’s kitchen looking into the dining and family rooms. I like the bokeh created by the flames in the fireplace. Can you tell if the flower is real or fake without zooming in on the picture?

I know I promised not to take any more Christmas tree pictures a few days ago, but here is another one. The silver flowers on the tree struck my fancy tonight. I opted for a tight in-camera crop for the flower to keep the distractions to a minimum. I really wanted this image to be all about the flower and nothing else.
I did not use any presets on today’s photograph. Instead, I played around with several of the settings in Lightroom’s develop module until I found a combination that I felt was intriguing.
