I was out playing golf this morning when I crossed paths with these deer. I knew that shooting into the low sun would cause lens flare and decided that I would use the flare as an element in the photograph. Although the flare wound up dominating the frame, I am still satisfied with the shot taken by my iPhone 3G.

My fiancee and I tried to take a trip to see the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC this morning. However, when we got there at six o’clock in the morning, there was already no parking in the Tidal Basin area where all the trees are planted. Being completely frustrated, we decided to drive back west and hit up Great Falls National Park instead. Unfortunately, the falls were not as picturesque as they normal are due to all the rain we have had over the past couple of days. They did, however, offer up the scene for today’s photograph.

I had the perfect timing this evening when I made my pit stop at the Interstate 95 reststop in Maryland. Before I headed in to grab a bite to eat and a coffee, I was able to capture this brilliant sunset. I enhanced the blues a bit during post processing, but I left the yellows and oranges unmolested.

Here is another great view from the balcony of my hotel room. The Philadelphia skyline is just a small fraction of the overall horizon from here. However, with the 70-200mm lens and a bit of cropping, it can become the subject for a great picture. I am couting my blessings that it came out as sharp as it did due to the fact the exposure was made hand-held. Much like Photo365-20100215 – Half Clover, I used the ledge of the balcony to help me steady the camera, but I would have been much better off taking the elevator down the ten floors to the trunk of my car to grab the tripod.
When I am lucky enough to get this room again in the hotel, if ever, I plan to take this picture again. I would like to improve the sharpness and clarity with a longer exposure while mounted on a tripod. If I am lucky enough to have a tele-extender by that time too, I will be sure to pop it on to get a little bit more distance from my lens. With a a 1.4x multiplier, I could get to 280mm and would need to crop out a lot less.

I lucked out with a balcony on my top floor hotel room this week. Better yet, it is the last room at the end of the hallway. This is the view of the Route 73 and Interstate 295 clover leaf intersection. I took the photograph using the ledge of the balcony as a support to keep the camera as steady as possible. If I was a little less lazy tonight, I would have run down to the car to grab my tripod and used a longer exposure time coupled with a wider aperture. Next time I suppose….

This is a picture of some of the aftermath of the previous days’ snow storms. I stopped at the Maryland welcome center on southbound Interstate 95 tonight. I just had to pull out the camera to capture this scene. The snow was piled up to over four feet talk in many areas.

It has been snowing like crazy up here in New Jersey for the last few days. As of right now, the end is finally insight. I ventured outside of my hotel room and outside the front doors just far enough to make this picture. The lighting adds a dynamic to the image which takes the boring tree in the snow to a more complex and interesting picture.
In post production I applied a softening preset to add a bit more “drama” to the photograph.

I am exhausted from my weekend at the slopes. This is the view outside of my hotel, back in New Jersey, right before I hit the hay for the night. Good night!

The snow has finally subsided, the ground is covered with over three feet of snow and the slopes are packed. Instead of skiing, I decided to hike around the mountain in an attempt to grab landscapes and action sports photographs. I was hoping to find snow shoes to rent in one of the stores at the resort, but gave up my search after a while of not finding them. The hiking was extremely difficult in the freshly fallen snow and my construction boots offered little traction even though every step sank a few feet into the fluffy snow. Fortunately, I was able to find the half pipe feature in the terrain park. I set up with my 70-200mm lens near the bottom of the half pipe to catch some snowboarders doing tricks. However, it seems the half pipe was too icy this afternoon and the only people entering the feature were skiers who went straight through from top to bottom. The disappointment did not stop me from taking this photograph of the incredible ice formations hanging from this mountain restaurant. Some call them icicles…my fiancee and I call them death-cicles!

This is the view from my room at Seven Springs resort in Pennsylvania this weekend. The east coast is getting blasted with a huge blizzard right now. Meteorologists are calling for feet of snow, not inches! The slopes in the picture are a mere two hundred hards yards away from the resort building and you can barely make them out. I am thinking that there will be plenty of photo opportunities over the next couple of days thanks to Mother Nature. Stay tuned!
