I shot this type of jewelry box concept a while back during the project (7-28: Creativity In a Box).  Because I was tired and in a rush to get today’s photograph, I revisited the jewelry box, but this time with the macro lens.

I loved how these flowers looked sitting in their vase by our front door.  I decided to set up my trusty flower photo station in the kitchen and  use the macro lens to try to capture their brilliant colors.  I did not notice this grouping of three pink flowers while shooting the frame.  However, when I was post processing the picture, I opted for a tight crop on the grouping once I noticed it.

What do I take a picture of when it is late at night, I am exhausted and stuck in a hotel room decorated, what feels like, ten years ago?  The hotel room desk chair fabric, of course!

Our home town had a flower and garden show on the main streets of the town center today.  I brought the DSLR with the macro lens attached in hopes of getting some great closeup flower shots.  This photograph is from the booth of one of the few orchid dealers’ exhibiting at the show.

Today I learned the importance of using a tripod for macro photography.  The depth of field is so narrow, it is near impossible to keep your focal point exact while hand holding.  I do love the way the colors came out in today’s photograph though.

The coffee was brewing this morning and it smelt so good that I had to take a picture of it.  I left the 100mm f/2.8L macro lens on the body and snapped the shot more from a portrait distance than a close up distance.  The 100mm f/2.8L macro lens is great not only as a macro but also as a normal lens, especially for portraiture.  Just because the lens says macro does not mean that is all it is good for.

This is another version of a photo I did way back on August 19, 2009, called “Grrwww”.  I decided to try the macro lens out this time on the magnet from Hawaii.  I also added a tilt in the framing when frame.  The dark red preset is a great fit for the menacing look on the figure’s face.

Tonight was another run and gun night.  I whipped out a five dollar bill from my wallet and took some macro shoots of Honest Abe.  I wanted to see how the printing looked under the microscope of the macro lens.

I seem to be shooting a lot of this type of dog portrait since getting the macro lens.  The close up on the face is a personal favorite at this time.  I love the detail visible in the strands of hair and the variations in color in the coats.  Leila was my model tonight.  As with most nights, by the time I get around to taking my picture for the day, Leila was ready for bed.

Tonight I continued to play around and get to know my 100mm f/2.8L macro lens some more.  The subject getting the close up treatment tonight was my Microsoft Arc mouse.  Because the color image was lacking interesting colors, I decided to process this photograph as a black and white.  I used a preset called Matt’s Sin City: Dark Red by Matt Kloskowski.
