I lucked out with a balcony on my top floor hotel room this week.  Better yet, it is the last room at the end of the hallway.  This is the view of the Route 73 and Interstate 295 clover leaf intersection.  I took the photograph using the ledge of the balcony as a support to keep the camera as steady as possible.  If I was a little less lazy tonight, I would have run down to the car to grab my tripod and used a longer exposure time coupled with a wider aperture.  Next time I suppose….

The snow is practically coming down sideways tonight.  Right outside of the hotel’s front door it is sticking to the walls.  The light shining straight down from the ceiling created this dynamic lighting on the textured wall.  The snow sticking to it added even more texture.  This was one of those photographs that I knew would come out great no matter how I shot it.  I am learning more and more that good light is everything in photography.

I am exhausted from my weekend at the slopes.  This is the view outside of my hotel, back in New Jersey, right before I hit the hay for the night.  Good night!

On my way back home from New Jersey this week, I took a short pit stop in order to take today’s picture.  The Maryland welcome center on I95 is the last rest stop on my now weekly commute.  I set up on the hill overlooking I95 with my tripod and 50mm lens.  My goal was to capture the streaking lights of passing by cars using a long exposure.  This twenty second exposure really brought out the little amount of light that was left in the sky.

Work sent me off to the far away and exotic land of Mount Laurel, NJ for the week.  After putting in a long day at the client, I headed to the hotel to check in and drop off my things.  I broke out the camera and took a stroll outside of the building to see what new and interesting things were ready to be photographed.  The first interesting subject to preset itself was the lit Marriott sign in the parking lot.

I played around by taking several different shots using both wide and narrow apertures.  I made sure to change my perspective multiple times while I was locked into each aperture setting.  Today’s photograph was my favorite of the series.

In post-processing, I found myself using one of Matt Kloskowski’s presets once again.  It was called “Matt’s Sin City – Light Red”.  I found this free preset on Matt’s Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips web site.
